Stop NCTD from Constructing Train Fence in 2020 on Del Mar Bluffs and in North County

The North County Transit District (NCTD), which controls the train tracks, is at it again. In 2018, they proposed projects to build miles of fencing along the tracks in Del Mar, Encinitas, and Oceanside. But a group of elected officials and thousands of residents organized to defeat it. On August 28, 2020, the NCTD requested a federal “declaratory order” to prevent local input on what it does with the tracks, including its proposed fencing projects. This would give the NCTD veto authority over objections from Del Mar or any other city. The NCTD wants to start the Del Mar project this fall, which would include up to 7,290 feet of fencing. The fencing projects in Encinitas and Oceanside will be sure to quickly follow. This will be a great loss for the entire community—cutting off beach access for thousands of people, ruining the landscape, and creating safety risk for anyone caught inside the fence. The pandemic has been tough on everyone, but the beach has been an important source of relief during these stressful times. Limiting access is unacceptable.   Please sign the petition and spread the word. Thanks, Dandanquirkdelmar2020.comcoaster-rail-to-trail.org

Constructing Mountain bike Trails in Karawatha Forest

Building a sufficient trail system within Karawatha Forest, will not only increase the use of a perfectly healthy park land, but will in theory also increase the economic growth within the area of Calamvale, Stretton, Springwood and Woodridge. Over the years the local shops at Calamvale on the corner of Gowan Road and Kameruka Street have not seen many potential customers forcing many businesses to close down. As mountain bikers, we believe that opening up a trail system in karawatha will boost the financial profit of shops like these, as cafes, convenience stores and particular meeting spots are all regular occurrences for our biking community. Just spending a little money in our forest could deeply impact the surrounding community in a very positive way, all you need to do is look at other local areas such as Daisy Hill Conservation Park which the council has spent money to create a trail system which all skill levels of mountain bikers can enjoy. This trail system has proven a benefit for local businesses such as the bakery which is only a few hundred metres away from the start of many trails. Building trails within Karawatha can keep surrounding local mountain bikers in the area, causing them to spend their money within our community rather than travelling to other suburbs.

    Petition to Walmart

Constructing a Road to Get to the Walmart in Huntsville, Texas

Citizens of Huntsville,Texas are forced to drive miles out of the way to get to their local Walmart from an adjacent shopping center. Rather than driving a few, convenient feet straight to Walmart from the shopping center, they are required to drive a much longer distance all the way around via the interstate highway. If Walmart would just construct a connecting road 42 feet and 7 inches long, this problem would be solved. Sadly, Huntsville citizens have been so desperate to get across this small stretch of land, that they have still driven over the ground there, and created four different trails, which first looked like little dirt tracks, then ditches, and now the Grand Canyon. The City of Huntsville would build this road, but it is on Walmart property.  Please sign this petition if you agree that Walmart should construct this 42 foot road to connect their parking lot to the adjacent shopping center.

    Petition to NIKE

Have Nike commit to constructing rec centers in majority black neighborhoods.

The black dollar is powerful. Black Americans alone are the 9th largest economy in the world. Our dollars fund corporations all over the United States and the rest of the world. However,it is rare that we see these corporations directly supporting us. It is time that we begin to redirect corporations to support the communities they use for their profits.  I am calling on a particular corporation (Nike) to commit to building rec centers in majority black neighborhoods all over the country. The reason I am targeting Nike is because they heavily rely on the black dollar. Nike hires dozens of black athletes to promote their brands. These athletes inspire young black Americans to purchase their products and create trends among the general public. These rec centers must be free to use for the general public with limited and affordable fees if necessary. It is also important that these rec centers hire Black people directly from the neighborhoods they are located in. These centers would provide a safe space for Black children and provide income for these neighborhoods. Although it is important that Black people reinvest into their own communities by supporting black businesses, corporations are not necessarily going anywhere. If we must continue to support a sneaker brand we must also demand that that sneaker brand support us. Nike has pledged $40 million to support the black community but this needs to create something tangible with long lasting effects past simple donations. Please sign this petition and utilize the other resources in the link tree update.

Wessex Water Constructing a Sewer Destroyed Sansway House Day Nursery

A huge multi million pound company, building a 55 million pound Sewer have ruined a small family business. Wessex Water aren’t answerable to any authority. They will not admit that they caused the closure of our established Forest Nursery and Home Education Club. They have caused the owners and their family nineteen months of anxiety and heartbreak. The Nurseries trees are being hit by 50 tonne plant machines, they have visible cracks around the bases. The noise exceeds safe decibels. The fumes and dust are toxic. Wessex are satisfied they’ve offered a hire room & day trips and will consider compensation claims. Legal agents confirm we have no case. The toll of 19mths means the owners are close to giving up. Information such as safety reports, risk assessments from Murphy, noise monitoring & reviews of mitigation measures have been refused. A tree report has declared tree failure may happen and ongoing vehicles may be damaging the trees. We are advised by Wessex and HSE children are safe to play under them. The works will worsen over the next 5 weeks. We anticipate the loss of our trees. Wessex Water do the morally right thing and admit what you’ve caused instead of continuing to deny.

Make it mandatory to use plastic waste in constructing roads

Reduce carbon emissions and stop plastics going into landfill, incinerator or the ocean, by making it mandatory for all major new Australian Federal road development initiatives  to include the soft plastic recycling technology. Similar projects are taking place around the world. The chemicals firm Dow has been implementing projects using polyethylene-rich recycled plastics in the US and Asia Pacific. The first in the UK was built in Scotland in 2019 by the plastic road builder MacRebur, which has laid plastic roads from Slovakia to South Africa. MacRebur has found that incorporating plastic improves roads' flexibility, helping them cope better with expansion and contraction due to temperature changes, leading to fewer potholes – and where potholes do happen, The technology has already been applied in Australia. Case study taken from Australian Gov website; https://www.environment.gov.au/about-us/partnerships/case-studies/australia-first-road-built-soft-plastics Downer partnered very closely with Close the Loop and RED Group to innovatively tailor waste products such as soft plastics to suit a road construction application. By working collaboratively with RED Group, Downer was able to improve the way they design and manufacture sustainable outcomes for waste that has meaningful uses. Sustainability Victoria supported Close the Loop and Downer with more than $100,000 to develop specialist equipment and help with trial costs. Soft plastics from approximately 200,000 plastic bags and packaging, 63,000 glass bottle equivalents, toner from 4,500 used printer cartridges and 50 tonnes of recycled asphalt were used to build the road in Craigieburn, located in Melbourne’s north. Together with their customer Hume City Council and partners, Downer have helped to set a new benchmark in the industry when it comes to sustainability, by creating new avenues to recycle and repurpose waste materials into new streams of use. The sustainable, cost-competitive road has a 65 per cent improvement in fatigue life and a superior resistance to deformation making the road last longer and allowing it to better handle heavy vehicle traffic. This case study shows that partnering with other thought leaders can create economic, social and environmental value for products that would more than likely end up in landfill, stockpiled, or as a pollutant in our natural environments. infrastructure projects by M McCorkmack; https://minister.infrastructure.gov.au/mccormack
