Save the PAC-12 Conference!

The Issue

We are the undersigned PAC-12 sports fans fed up with B1G expanding into the Pacific time zone to demolish the only major west coast conference in the Division I FBS competition over the tempting media rights deal. B1G is hurting the PAC-12 by going anti-geographic, adding UCLA, USC, and most recently, Oregon and Washington.

My Personal Story: I have been dividing my time as a PAC-12 fan between the University of Washington and the University of California, Los Angeles. I have had great experiences attending their respective home games. To see both of my favorites moving to the B1G conference is my worst nightmare. I think it should never happen because the people who cares too much about money and are responsible for putting their athletes in mental danger will regret making that decision in the first place.

Who is Impacted? The problem makes the student-athletes fatigued by traveling from the Pacific to Central and Eastern Time Zones, which could also reduce the amount of classroom time they need. The internal problem is the PAC-12 commissioner, George Kilavkoff, who is refusing to do anything to serve the athletes along with its health as the top priority and appears to be downplaying the opportunity for a new media rights deal, which has us, as west coast fans, baffled and frustrated when time is not on our side.

What is at stake? With the current media rights deal expiring after this school year, the PAC-12 and the ACC are considering a coast-to-coast merger to save their respective conferences. However, is that the best option, though? The only way for the PAC-12 to avoid going through nationwide travel is to poach and expand by adding up the possible likes of San Diego St., SMU, Boise State, etc.

Why is now the time to act? We urge the PAC-12 to immediately find and take the new media rights deal and add the relevant candidates to fill in the shoes because we are running out of time. Without trying to prevent the PAC-12 conference from dissolving by greed, it will officially implode with no major west conference in the NCAA.
