Repeal Senate Bill 6552 in Washington State

Repeal Senate Bill 6552 in Washington State
The Issue
High School in Washington State is already long enough as it is with the current required 1000 hours of instructional hours. Now they are adding an additional 80 hours which means eliminating early releases or adding 25 minutes to the already long day of six and a half hours. This may not seem like a huge change but early releases provide both relief to students who are constantly stressed by heavy workloads, and time for lesson planning and preparation to teachers. There is also evidence from studies showing that increased school hours does not increase test scores. Without early releases we could see a decrease in well-thought-out and quality lessons as well as a small increase in dropout rates which is unquestionably counterproductive. All this coupled with a system that doesn't allow students to have any say in changes that affect them demands a call to action. Share this with all your friends on any social media site to show them we have an opinion and demand a voice.
