Victory

From Team Save JGA www.SaveJGA.org: We received information via SF Chronicle that the potential sponsor was officially pulling out of this particular project. Therefore the threat of renaming the Amphithater at this time is no longer there. Thanks to everyone for their support.

Jerry Garcia is a Native Son of the Excelsior District, San Francisco.  He overcame many adversities in his childhood and went on to become one of the founders and leaders of the Grateful Dead, as well as an international musical icon.    In 2005, he was honored by the City and County of San Francisco , SF Parks and Recreation Department, and various community members by having the Mclaren Park Amphitheater - located a few blocks from his childhood home - renamed in his honor.   This park treasure is a landmark in this section of San Francisco and is a symbol of community pride.  The thought of renaming and changing the infrastructure to the Levit guidelines is unimaginable and unrealistic, therefore we're asking all efforts and evaluations to cease and desist.  Thank You - Save Jerry Garcia Amphitheater Team.

To:
San Francisco Board of Supervisors
Mayor Ed Lee
San Francisco Recreation and Park
San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission
Please retain and preserve the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and do not allow any changes or alternatives to the name of this park treasure located in McLaren Park, San Francisco. The location of this Amphitheater borders the Excelsior District neighborhood and is a few blocks from his childhood home.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

When I go to San Fran, I ALWAYS think of Jerry Garcia, as he was the first reason I ever had to come to San Fran.. to see his concerts! & when I am in town, I go to places where he was known to make his Presence.. like Haight/ Ashbury.. If it were not for Jerry Garcia, I would never have explored San Fran or come to love it like I do now! I think there should certainly be a monument for Garcia in the Park where he played.. an Amphitheater yet! PERFECT! Please support hte Preservation of the Amphithteater & his name on it.. This is a San Francisco treasure!

Jerry Garcia devoted his life to music and has affected millions of people throughout the entire world. He should be remembered for all of human history. The music amphitheater located in his childhood neighborhood would best be named after him over anyone or anything else.
