Make the Richardsons Boat Landing In Bonneau, SC "No Swimming"

Make the Richardsons Boat Landing In Bonneau, SC "No Swimming"

The Issue

You once had a "No Swimming" allowed at the Bonneau Beach Boat landing. You decided to remove the sign and blocked off the entire beach to swimmers. Swimmers could very easily go to the tip of Bonneau Beach and swim with out being in the way of boaters. Boaters pay for fishing license and registration fees. This should give the boaters a little more use to the boat landing. Since you have made it a swimming area there has always been complete chaos . You have people that walk the sidewall, and jump in front of boats. Boats do not have breaks. One day someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. You also do not provide a lifeguard at your public swimming area. So you think this will release you from any liability. Boaters have absolutely no room to dock, get there vehicle and load the boats. Not everyone knows how to drive a boat nor back a trailer to help the other person out. I think you should reconsider this as a boat landing and not a public swimming area. In case you are wondering which boat landing--->>https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_details?p_id=335. This picture was taken prior to you making this a public swimming area.

You also have other public swimming locations throughout the area . These areas should be suggested to use such as the Overton location for swimming. They also provide a lifeguard. You also have Thornley Forest area for swimming.   It would help tremendously if the boats could pull up on land to be able to get their vehicle. I have seen boats that have had motor problems. They have no control. You have a huge section barricaded off to swimmers. I understand you may not use this boat landing since you have Somerset to load and unload. Even at Somerset the swimming area is in a different location and not directly in the boaters way. I really hope you will take this in to consideration and put the "no swimming" sign back up and remove the barricade.    " SECTION 50-21-125. Restrictions on swimming near public landing on hydroelectric generation lake or reservoir; no wake zone.

It is unlawful for a person to swim within fifty feet of a public boat landing or ramp located on a lake or reservoir constructed or developed by an investor-owned utility for hydroelectric generation. For purposes of this section, a public boat landing or ramp is one owned or maintained by an investor-owned utility for hydroelectric generation and is available to the public at large. The area where swimming is prohibited must be clearly marked and signs must be posted to give public notice that no swimming is allowed in the area. Watercraft must slow to no wake speed when operated within two hundred feet of the landing or ramp.
