Limit Consumer Penalties for Copyright Violations

Limit Consumer Penalties for Copyright Violations

The Issue

Current copyright law was written with corporations and profiteers in mind and the financial penalties reflect that. Unfortunately, MPAA & RIAA members have abused those penalties to extort massive sums for minor infractions. In the case of Jammie Thomas, that amount was $9,250 per song, or $222,000. The RIAA has since started using other tactics to combat piracy, but this hole in the legislation remains. Please help remove it.
