Arizona State Legislation: Change the Arizona state bird to the Red-Faced Warbler

The Issue

While the Cactus Wren is a symbol of the desert in which we enjoy, it's geographic prominence and notorious aptitude for getting into mischief make it an irrelevant and frankly inadequate representation of Arizona.

The Red-faced Warbler (Cardellina rubrifrons) on the other hand is a beautifully colored and nearly endemic bird to Arizona. It breeds and lives in the often forgotten high mountains that are found in more than half of the state. Despite the state's aridity, 27% of Arizona is forest, a percentage comparable to modern-day France or Germany. Likewise the largest stand of Ponderosa pine trees in the world is contained in Arizona; a fact unknown to most.

Frankly put the Cactus Wren is a symbol of every reason to stay away from Arizona: mischief , heat, dry desert, etc. While the Red-faced Warbler draws attention to the grandeur, wonder and beauties of this great state we call home.
