🏊♀️ Let’s Make a Community Pool in Hermosa a Reality — Dive In With Us!
The Issue
We, the residents and supporters of Hermosa Beach, are ready to make a splash—by urging our City Council to take timely, tangible steps toward a long-overdue community asset: a public swimming pool within or very near city limits. For Hermosa residents.
During the 2023 outreach for the Hermosa Beach Parks & Recreation Master Plan, a swimming pool surfaced as the #1 most-requested facility. That priority was voiced through surveys, stakeholder input, and community workshops. And yet, the final plan barely wades into the topic.
The disconnect between what the community asked for and what made it into the plan is clear—and it’s time to close the gap.
With the support you've already shown, City Council called on the Parks & Recreation Commission to explore what it would take to build a swimming pool in Hermosa. Since then, no action has been taken. We are now calling on the Hermosa Beach Parks and Recreation Commission to:
🔹 Show the residents of Hermosa Beach the respect to explore adding a swimming pool to our parks facilities, as it was identified as the No. 1 needed park facility in both the 2024 and 1990 Hb Parks & Rec Master Plans.
🔹 Create a Pool Advisory Subcommittee to identify city-owned spaces that could house a pool in Hermosa
🔹 Explore how other cities have funded the building and operating costs of swimming pools, and strategize a plan that fits Hermosa Beach's unique financial situation
A well-designed public pool would serve every corner of our community:
✅ Kids & Teens – Learn-to-swim programs, youth recreation, junior lifeguard prep, swim teams, and water polo team
✅ Adults & Seniors – Year-round fitness, masters programs, physical therapy, and wellness
✅ People with Disabilities – An accessible and inclusive aquatic space
✅ The Community at Large – A gathering place, civic asset, and economic boost
This is more than a want—it’s a shared community need. The opportunity is real, and the timing is critical. City-owned land is currently being assessed. If we speak up now, we can ensure a pool is part of the vision.
By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for the City Council* to:
✅ Identify possible pool locations
✅ Form an advisory committee along with staff, residents, and experts to steer next steps
Let’s make waves—and make a public pool in Hermosa Beach a reality.
*A change.org glitch has Councilmen Michael Keegan and Michael Detoy's names flipping back and forth as "decision makers" -- both names won't show at the same time. They are both aware of the petition and will receive updates.
