।। বাংলা মঞ্চের পক্ষ থেকে গণস্বাক্ষর সংগ্রহের আহ্বান ।। 

আমরা গভীর ক্ষোভ ও দুঃখের সঙ্গে লক্ষ্য করেছি যে, গত ৩রা আগস্ট ২০২৫, দিল্লি পুলিশ, বঙ্গভবনের উদ্দেশ্যে লেখা একটি চিঠিতে, বাংলা ভাষাকে “বাংলাদেশি ভাষা” বলে উল্লেখ করেছেন। এই মন্তব্য যে শুধু ভুল তাই নয়, এতে বাংলা ভাষা, তার ইতিহাস, মর্যাদা এবং কোটি কোটি বাঙালি ও বাংলাভাষী মানুষের আবেগকে সরাসরি অপমান করা হয়েছে।

বাংলা আমাদের মাতৃভাষা। এ ভাষা আমাদের চেতনার শিকড়। উপমহাদেশের অন্যতম প্রাচীন ও সমৃদ্ধ এই ভাষার প্রতিটি শব্দে জড়িয়ে আছে হাজার বছরের সাহিত্য, সংস্কৃতি, দর্শন এবং সংগ্রামের স্মৃতি। 

দিল্লি পুলিশকে আমরা আরেকবার স্মরণ করিয়ে দিতে চাই বাংলা সেই ভাষা, যার সাহিত্য এই দেশকে দিয়েছে নোবেল সম্মান, চলচ্চিত্র এনে দিয়েছে অস্কার পুরস্কার এবং সর্বোপরি জাতীয় সঙ্গীত। 

ভারতীয় সংবিধানের ধারা ৩৪৪(১) এবং ৩৫১-এর অধীনে সংজ্ঞায়িত ৮-ম তফসিলে অন্তর্ভুক্ত বাংলা ভাষা, ভারতের অঙ্গরাজ্য পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ও ত্রিপুরার সরকারি ভাষা এবং জনসংখ্যার হিসেবে দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম ভাষা। পশ্চিমবঙ্গ এবং ত্রিপুরা ছাড়াও আসাম, ঝাড়খণ্ড, মেঘালয় সহ বিভিন্ন রাজ্যের প্রায় ১৫ কোটি মানুষের মুখের ভাষা বাংলা, যা এদেশের মোট জনসংখ্যার আট শতাংশেরও বেশি।

সেই ভাষাকে বিদেশি ভাষা বলে দাগিয়ে দেওয়া, সরাসরি জাতীয় সংহতি, সাংবিধানিক স্বীকৃতি, ভাষাগত অধিকার এবং সাংস্কৃতিক বৈচিত্র্যের উপর আঘাত।

আমাদের আশঙ্কা, এটি নিছক একটি অনিচ্ছাকৃত ভুল নয়, বরং এটি ভাষাগত অবজ্ঞা এবং সেই সঙ্গে বাঙালি ও বাংলাভাষীদের প্রতি এক প্রকার তাচ্ছিল্য।

মাতৃভাষার এই অপমান আমরা কিছুতেই মুখ বুজে মেনে নেব না।এই অপমানের প্রতিবাদে আমরা দিল্লি পুলিশের কাছে তিনটি স্পষ্ট দাবি জানাচ্ছি—

১.   বাংলা ভাষাকে “বাংলাদেশি ভাষা” বলে উল্লেখ করার জন্য দিল্লি পুলিশকে প্রকাশ্যে, নিঃশর্তভাবে ক্ষমা চাইতে হবে।

২.   ভবিষ্যতে এই ধরনের ভুল যেন আর না ঘটে, তার জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট প্রশাসনিক দপ্তরে যথাযথ প্রশিক্ষণ ও দায়িত্ববোধ জাগ্রত করার উদ্যোগ নিতে হবে।

৩.   দেশের প্রতিটি ভাষার প্রতি সম্মান বজায় রাখার জন্য আধিকারিক স্তরে একটি স্পষ্ট নীতি ও দায়বদ্ধতা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।

প্রবাসী ও পরিযায়ী বাঙালিদের একটি সামাজিক-সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন হিসেবে আমরা বাংলা মঞ্চের সদস্যরা মনে করি, মাতৃভাষার সম্মান রক্ষার লক্ষ্যে এই প্রতিবাদ আমাদের স্বাভাবিক অধিকার এবং এই দেশের বহু ভাষাভাষীর সমানাধিকার রক্ষার স্বার্থে একটি নৈতিক দায়িত্ব।

এটি শুধু একটি প্রতিবাদই নয়, দেশের সমস্ত বাঙালি ওবাংলাভাষী নাগরিকের কাছে এটি এক গভীর তাৎপর্যবাহীআহ্বান। 

বাংলা মঞ্চের আহ্বান সেই সমস্ত মানুষের কাছে, যাঁরা মাতৃভাষাকে ভালবাসেন, ভাষার মর্যাদার পক্ষে দাঁড়াতে চান এবং যাঁরা মনে করেন: মাতৃ ভাষার অপমান মানে গোটা জাতির অপমান।

আপনিও যদি এই প্রতিবাদে একমত হন, তবে দয়া করে এই বিবৃতিতে স্বাক্ষর করে আমাদের সঙ্গে গলা মিলিয়ে বলুন—

“বাংলা ভাষার কোনও অসম্মান আমরা বরদাস্ত করব না। দিল্লি পুলিশকে অবিলম্বে প্রকাশ্যে নিঃশর্ত ক্ষমা চাইতে হবে।”

Referring to Bengali as the “Bangladeshi Language”: Delhi Police Must Apologise Immediately in Public

|| A Call for Mass Petition from Bangla Mancha ||

With profound dismay and disappointment, we have observed that the Delhi Police referred to the Bengali language as the “Bangladeshi language” in an official communication addressed to the ‘Banga Bhawan’. This is not merely a factual error but a direct affront to the history, dignity, and emotional identity of millions of Bengalis and Bengali-speaking people around the world.

Bengali is our mother tongue, the root of our cultural and emotional identity. It is one of the oldest and richest languages of the subcontinent. Woven into its every syllable is a legacy of literature, culture, philosophy, and gory resilience spanning centuries.

We would like to remind the Delhi Police once again that Bengali is the language that gifted this nation its only Nobel Prize in Literature, an Oscar (Academy Award) in cinema, and, last but not least, the national anthem.

Bengali is one of the 22 languages recognized under the Eighth Schedule of Articles 344(1) and 351 of the Indian Constitution. It is the official language of West Bengal and Tripura. Beyond that, as the second most spoken language in India, it continues to be a vibrant tongue for over ten percent of the country’s population—accounting for nearly 150 million Indians spread across states like Assam, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and many more.

To label such a language as “foreign” is not just a grievous mistake. It strikes at the heart of India’s national unity and sets a troubling precedent for institutional indifference toward constitutional recognition, linguistic rights, and cultural plurality.

We find it difficult to believe that this was merely an isolated ‘slip of the pen’ and not a reflection of deeper linguistic apathy toward the Bengali language and its speakers.

We cannot, and will not, remain silent in the face of such disrespect toward our mother tongue. We demand that the Delhi Police take the following three actions immediately:

 1. Issue an unconditional public apology for mischaracterizing Bengali as the “Bangladeshi language.”

 2. Ensure appropriate administrative training and awareness initiatives to prevent such incidents in the future.

 3. Establish a clear policy framework and accountability mechanism at the institutional level to uphold respect for all Indian languages.

As a social-cultural forum representing both diasporic and migrant Bengalis, we at Bangla Mancha believe that it is not just our right, but our moral obligation to stand up in defense of our mother tongue. Not only,, in defense of our own mother tongue, but also of the equal dignity of every linguistic community in this country.

This protest is not just for Bengalis. It is for every Indian who believes that the richness of this nation lies in its diversity of languages, cultures, and traditions.

It is our heartfelt appeal to every Bengali-speaking person in this country, as well as, to all who love their mother tongue, who believe in linguistic dignity, and who recognize that an insult to one’s language is an insult to the entire community.

“We will not tolerate any insult to the Bengali language. The Delhi Police must issue a public and unconditional apology immediately.”
