جناب آقای رئیس‌جمهور ترامپ،

مردم ایران و ایالات متحده در مقابله با تهدیدهای ناشی از جمهوری اسلامی  دارای منافع مشترکی هستند. سیاست‌های جمهوری اسلامی، از حمایت از گروه‌های مسلح منطقه‌ای گرفته تا برنامه‌های موشکی و هسته‌ای و رویارویی مستمر با آمریکا و متحدانش، برای امنیت منطقه و جهان نگرانی‌های جدی ایجاد کرده است.

با این حال،  هیچ قدرت خارجی به‌تنهایی نمی‌تواند آینده سیاسی ایران را تعیین کند. تغییر پایدار در ایران بدون مشارکت، حمایت و نقش‌آفرینی مستقیم مردم ایران امکان‌پذیر نخواهد بود. بنابراین، هرگونه سیاست موفق در قبال ایران باید مردم ایران را در مرکز خود قرار دهد.

در این چارچوب، ایالات متحده باید توجه جدی‌تری به ارتباط و همکاری با نیروها و چهره‌هایی داشته باشد که در میان بخش‌هایی از جامعه ایران توانایی ایجاد ارتباط و بسیج سیاسی دارند.

از میان این چهره‌ها، شاهزاده رضا پهلوی یکی از افرادی است که طی سال‌های گذشته توانسته است توجه و حمایت قابل توجهی در میان بخشی از ایرانیان داخل و خارج از کشور به دست آورد. حامیان او معتقدند که وی می‌تواند در روند گذار ایران به سوی حکومتی سکولار، دموکراتیک و مبتنی بر حاکمیت مردم نقش ایفا کند.

 همکاری میان مردم ایران و ایالات متحده می‌تواند فرصت مهمی برای تغییر شرایط موجود ایجاد کند؛ اما این همکاری باید بر توانمندسازی مردم ایران استوار باشد، نه بر تعیین آینده ایران از خارج.

ایالات متحده می‌تواند با حمایت از آزادی ارتباطات، دسترسی آزاد به اطلاعات، توانایی سازمان‌یابی ایرانیان و ارتباط مستقیم با نیروهای دموکراسی‌خواه، به مردم ایران کمک کند تا خود سرنوشت کشورشان را تعیین کنند.

آینده ایران باید توسط ایرانیان تعیین شود. هدف نهایی باید ایرانی آزاد، مستقل، سکولار، دموکراتیک و صلح‌طلب باشد؛ کشوری که بتواند با ایالات متحده و جامعه جهانی روابطی سازنده و مبتنی بر منافع متقابل داشته باشد.

از جنابعالی درخواست می‌کنیم در تدوین سیاست آمریکا در قبال ایران، نقش و ظرفیت مردم ایران و چهره‌هایی را که توانایی ارتباط با جامعه ایران دارند، با جدیت مورد توجه قرار دهید.

Dear President Trump,

We believe the people of Iran and the United States share important interests in addressing the threat posed by the Islamic Republic and its policies, particularly its support for regional armed groups, missile and nuclear activities, and its longstanding confrontation with the United States and its allies.

At the same time, we believe that lasting political change in Iran cannot be achieved through external action alone. The support, participation, and ultimately the agency of the Iranian people themselves are essential to any sustainable transformation.

For that reason, I believe U.S. policy should give serious consideration to engaging with and supporting legitimate representatives of the Iranian people and the broader Iranian opposition. Among the figures who have demonstrated an ability to communicate with and mobilize significant numbers of Iranians is Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. His supporters argue that he can serve as a unifying figure for a transition toward a secular, democratic, and representative political system.

We believe there is an opportunity for greater cooperation between the United States and Iranians who seek fundamental political change. Such cooperation should focus on empowering the Iranian people rather than determining Iran’s political future on their behalf.

A successful approach would require listening carefully to Iranians inside and outside the country, supporting their ability to organize and communicate, and making clear that the ultimate future of Iran must be decided by the Iranian people.

We respectfully ask your administration to consider this perspective as it develops its policy toward Iran. The objective should be a future in which Iran is peaceful, sovereign, democratic, and able to establish constructive relations with the United States and the international community.
