Please do not to take away Cityville!

The Issue

Please reconsider! We are upset and outraged at the announcement of shutting down Cityville. Millions of players love this game and to take it away is to rob us of years of time, money and effort. It is a disrespectful way to treat loyal customers.

Here is a post from the Zynga forum and we share Andy’s sentiment:

andy1963 "why shut us down ... how do you decide Cityville players are disposable. this is not fair to all of us loyal players. how does our time and loyalty get deemed worthless to you. because it is not worthless to us."

Maybe you had good intentions of focusing on newer games; however, it is not going to accomplish the kind of good that may have been intended. It is upsetting countless loyal customers who are vowing to never play or recommend Zynga products. Cityville’s shutdown will cause a bigger ripple effect than may have been considered.

As a company that exists to reach game players, we hope you listen to our outcry. We are the exact people you are trying to reach with your games. Taking Cityville away sends a clear message that we are not important to a big company. It is as if you have gotten so big that you have forgotten the loyal consumers who helped make you big in the first place. Cityville’s record-breaking success is undeniable.

It is incredibly contradictory for Zynga to go against the main statement of its CEO. Front and center on the “About” page of Zynga.com, Don Mattrick is quoted saying “Zynga has redefined entertainment and brought gaming to the mainstream. Only Zynga combines engineering, industry-leading product management and analytics to deliver products that strike a chord with consumers and add real value in their lives.” This statement encapsulates Cityville at the highest level. It also displays what Zynga claims to do and be. The love we have for Cityville is what Zynga strives to create, not eliminate.

If Cityville is not getting the attention Zynga would like, why not promote it more? Even if Cityville is being missed by the new Zynga users, Cityville certainly should not go away for the loyal users who have invested years of time into building their own city since its launch date. Even Cityville’s Facebook page currently has 33,000,000+ page likes.

Online posts are echoing the fact that for so many of us, Cityville is the only game we want to play. Here are some posts from the Zynga website forum:

chellesie: “Please reconsider. I can’t believe it is being shut down after all these years. I have been playing this game since it first started. the other games don’t compete, this was the best Zynga game I am absolutely gutted.”

ackk: "If they shut this game down i will never ever play another game from Zynga again. I have spent much money and time over the past 5 years also. This is so unfair. Do they do this with all their games?? I will make sure all my friends and family know to never ever play one of their games again."

paulmeyers8793: "crazy I cannot believe this game is shutting down I have invested soooooomuch time and money into the game its such a disappointment. I cannot believe I have built the city of my dreams and now its just going to go away. with all the technology in the world today there is no way to save my city? I am stunned that Zynga would do this this after playing this game for yrs. and spending countless dollars there is no game to compare to cityville I just will never go on Zynga ever again......"

da131: "Why close your most popular game. I have been playing cityville for 5 years and have spent hours and money playing it. Why close it down? I am not interested what so ever in any of the other games. Close cityville down and I will never play nor recommend any zynga products to anyone. Listen to what people are saying zynga for the sake of your business."

We are all signing this petition in hopes that you will reconsider your decision. Please keep Cityville!

Signed, your loyal Citizens.
