We are calling for the support of all fellow animal lovers. Tragically we have lost our precious puppy all due to the shape of one small treat. We need your help to make a change within a very popular and large treat company called Zuke's. On May 12th, 2015 our beloved 15 week old border collie puppy Kevin came in from his walk and was asked to sit. He was rewarded with one mini naturals Zuke's treat which is a circular treat and measures .25 inches. Kevin inhaled the treat and it got lodged in his trachea. Due to lack of oxygen, he died within 45 seconds. He was rushed to the vet but it was too late. The necropsy report from Eagle Animal Hospital in Pennsylvania shows there was indeed, an intact Zuke's treat in his airway which led to his suffocation. The treat happened to be the same shape and size as his air pipe causing the treat to act as a plug, allowing no air through. We have asked Zuke's to do something about the problem at hand, their solution was to make a donation in the form of treats. Donating treats will not help anyone unless they decide to change their shape first. We are asking that Zuke's take this matter very seriously. The professional opinion from the vet which was in fact voiced to Zuke's, was to change the shape of their circular treats to oblong. This has been the same request made by others who knew Kevin or have had previous issues with Zuke's. There is something to be done, but it seems that our request has fallen on deaf ears. Please help us to be heard, no one else deserves to lose their beloved pet due to the simplicity of the shape of a treat. Will you help us make this right?
