Zoo Miami has taken baby elephants only to breed them for captivity. The elephants are mistreated and aren’t provided with the correct environment to be able to thrive. Peta and In Defense of Animals both criticized the treatment of the animals in Zoo Miami. Captivity for elephants in general is extremely harmful and there’s no way that a zoo can meet the needs of these kinds of animals. I have linked some sources that go more into detail:
