I have kept most of this to myself in this journey with the Zoning Department of Cedar Rapids, IA. After attending a city council meeting this last Tuesday, it was obvious the council doesn't like to spend time on anything that they don't make money on. What I do is all volunteer and I make no money. Most of the time I don't have enough donations and have to spend my own money. You may ask yourself why the zoning department. Well, I am in compliance with Animal Control because I have my license through the state to do this. And the DNR is my boss. It is a battle that doesn't make a lot of sense as over 90% of the animals I get are from in the city limits of Cedar Rapids. I am one person. I get animals because the community wants to help an injured wild animal. I do not go looking for animals. I am contacted by the community. I am an outlet for the community for wildlife and no city department covers these animals. If animal control picks them up, they are euthanized. The only way I can continue helping our native animals is to relocate or a major change with the city government needs to happen. Thank you for your continued support!
