Stop Performing at Del Mar Race Track

Stop Performing at Del Mar Race Track
The Issue
At California's Del Mar Race Track, the 10-year average is a horse death every 3 racing days. During the 2014 season, 16 horses died in just 31 racing days. So far in the 2015 season, 8 horses have died in just 17 days.
Reggae Legend, Ziggy Marley, is likely slated to perform as headliner of the Reggaefest concert at Del Mar Race Track in 2016, just as he had done almost every year for the last ten years, but he probably doesn't know just how much horses suffer at this venue.
As a local animal activist who has seen the devastation first hand at Del Mar Race Track, I feel it's important to make sure the performers scheduled are made aware of what is truly happening to the amazing horses that are forced to race.
Horses begin training or already racing when their skeletal systems are still growing and unprepared to handle the pressures of running on a hard track at high speeds.
Many racehorses become addicted to drugs when their trainers and veterinarians give them drugs to keep them on the track when they shouldn't be racing. For each horse that is raced to death (an average of 375), thousands of thoroughbreds will be sent to a slaughterhouse without ever seeing a track.
With enough signatures, I'm sure Ziggy Marley will cancel his performance at Del Mar. He has been the headliner of Del Mar’s Reggaefest eight of the last nine years bringing in tens of thousands of dollars of revenue that supports this cruel “sport”. Ziggy Marley has his own foundation that helps children and communities in Jamaica, Africa and around the world. He even has his own line of organic cooking products! Let's show him that Del Mar Race Track is no place for him!
Please join me in asking Ziggy Marley to stop supporting animal cruelty and stop performing at the Del Mar Race Track.
Footnote: The horse pictured above was named Fantasy Free. I witnessed this horse being shot on Del Mar race track in August 2010. This petition is in her memory.
