For Immediate Release March 2, 2015 The Beta chapter of Zeta Psi Fraternity wishes to apologize to our community, specifically the Iraqi Community of Charlottesville, for our inappropriately named event held recently. Despite the intent to reference a piece of 2000’s American pop- culture, the chapter failed to recognize the sensitivity of the song’s subject matter for those who were affected by or had family who were affected by the 1990-1991 and 2003-2011 conflicts. The event name was not representative of the values which the Beta chapter and Zeta Psi Fraternity pride themselves upon. Fostering positive relationships with everyone in the Charlottesville community is important to us. The ongoing education of our membership incorporates a variety of topics, including leadership, diversity awareness, and philanthropic endeavors. Moving forward, we at the Beta Chapter hope to use the lessons learned from this error in judgment to help our brotherhood grow as individuals and be more involved in the UVA community. Sincerely, The Beta Chapter of Zeta Psi University of Virginia
