Stop Financially Supporting the High-Kill Shelter The Animal Foundation

The Issue

Las Vegas animal lovers have been trying to reform our high-kill animal shelter that, among other things, is not properly treating emergency medical issues, killing adoptable animals while an abundance of kennels sit empty and deceiving the public about their practices.  We have organized,  protested and contacted our elected officials, but their government  contracts were still renewed.  The local media has produced countless  negative stories, yet they seem to have little affect on the shelter.  Our challenge has been so daunting because the woman who runs the shelter lives with the City Manager of Las Vegas and their board members are very well connected, one of whose family owns one of the daily papers in town, The Sun.

Zappos, the online retailer, is one of their largest and most outspoken corporate donors.  Last year the community asked Zappos to stop financially supporting The Animal Foundation and they agreed.  Then, we recently found out they were a Gold Level Sponsor at an Animal Foundation event where they auction off dogs.  Zappos has the power to force The Animal Foundation to change the way they run the shelter, yet they have chosen to turn their backs on the animals and lie to the community.

We are asking everyone to stop buying products from Zappos until they make a public statement that they will no longer financially support The Animal Foundation unless they:

1. Hire a new Director of Operations
2. Abide by their contract to provide emergency medical care and hold all animals for a minimum of 72 hours.
3. Use some of their $5 million in savings to hire additional veterinary staff to treat routine medical issues.
4. Eliminate pull fees for rescue groups.
5. Create a pet help desk to assist people with keeping their pets instead of surrendering them.

Please sign the petition and share it with your friends.  Vegas is an international city and in order to achieve change we need pressure from all over the world.  Thousands of animals lives could be saved if we are successful.   To learn more check us out at www.nklv.org.
