The Issue

A popular Zambian artist Fumba Chama “Pilato” was arrested yesterday, Sat Dec 21, in Livingstone, Zambia for hosting a meeting that demands transparency in public resource management. In Zambia we believe that holding elected elected officials accountable is our right. Laura Miti and Bornwell were also arrested for seeking his release.
Pilato is however no stranger to the state and government. He’s for long been persecuted for criticizing the leadership of President Edgar Lungu and the misuse of public funds by government officials.
Hakainde Hichilema, President of United National Development Party, the strongest opposition party wrote on his Twitter:
“We are saddened by the news of @LauraMiti's detention in Livingstone, as she sought Pilato's release. This government is determined to instil fear in people fighting against their abuse of our rights and freedoms. We strongly condemn their detention. #Zambia”
Making it clear that anyone who attempts to follow up and seek Pilato’s release is being detained.

I made several phone calls to the Livingstone Central Police but they couldn’t provide me with any information, no one seems to have answers.
We are tired of the corruption of our leaders in Zambia, we are rising up no matter the cost
