Stop Fake 'Health' Videos on YouTube!
Stop Fake 'Health' Videos on YouTube!
Il problema
Two/three years and score ago, a trend started to appear on YouTube.
A trend called "Fake Dandruff ASMR", based on posting videos of fake dandruff removals, always in frankly disgusting forms (worms or other parasites could be included in the video).
Here are some image samples hosted on imgur dot com, do not click if you are weak of stomach (I nearly emptied mine looking at one of the videos, I suspect I will also trouble sleeping tonight to avoid thinking too much of what I saw).
Now, everyone is free to do what he or she does in his/her free time, even making such "prank" videos (and I do not envy the ones whose heads are being used for those "works of art").
But we (the general YouTube userbase) should also be free to not stumble onto such "works" when either using the Random Video function, or when searching for valid medical suggestion videos, or when searching for songs from the Ivor Cutler's "Dandruff" album.
Oh, even better, there is no mature content filter. Have fun imagining impressionable young minds seeing those videos and getting ideas from them.
Requests for removal/taking down of such videos from their various channels (and of issuing warning/closing said channels) have been done (oldest Reddit article I was able to find with a google search about those videos is from July 2020), but without much luck on the matter.
Another similar trend (this one perhaps worse) is of channels claiming of being of "animal help" inclination.
Those channels' owners have the habit of posting videos of removals of ticks from cats... when the so-called 'ticks' (always in an exaggerated quantity, all too many times located on the cat's heads) are seeds of various types, glued to the cats' fur. Here the flagging of the channels works to shut them down, at least.
Sign the petition to point the YouTube Staff to these fake videos and have them removed and the channels spamming them shut down, so to make the navigation and usage of YouTube less disgusting for the users, or, in the case of the fake cat tick removal videos, stop the blatant animal abuse those 'prank videos' promote!
