The Issue

After the tragic shooting at UNLV, students across Nevada didn’t wait for someone else to act. We came together—Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike—to work toward one goal: keeping our campuses safe.

SB156 is a student-led initiative, championed by Youth Voice of Nevada, and built through collaboration between young people across political lines. We’re tired of the constant division in our politics. That’s why we chose to work together, setting aside our differences to focus on real solutions.

Through open dialogue and compromise, we crafted a bill that is moderate, reasonable, and focused on prevention. In response to concerns, SB156 was amended to remove its fiscal note, making it budget-neutral while preserving its core mission.

The bill passed the Nevada Assembly with bipartisan support, it also earned the backing of student coalitions, educators, community leaders, and advocacy organizations throughout the state.

Now, it’s up to Governor Lombardo.

We urge the Governor to sign SB156 into law. Students have led the way. Lawmakers on both sides have done their part. Community voices are united.

It’s time for our Governor to stand with us.

Sign SB156 and show Nevada that campus safety comes before politics
