The Issue

To: Local Government Officials and Traffic Safety Authorities

This residential road is near two playgrounds and is home to several children with disabilities. Despite warning signs, including signs alerting drivers that deaf children are nearby, cars, quads, and gas-powered drift trikes continue to travel at dangerous speeds.

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members, request immediate traffic-calming measures, including a speed bump or similar device, at the center of Hillcrest Rd.

But the people with the power to make a difference believe the existing signage is sufficient. Let that sink in: the very warning signs drivers are already ignoring. Signs aren’t slowing traffic, and simply hoping drivers will pay attention isn’t a safety plan. We need effective traffic-calming measures before a preventable tragedy occurs.

We respectfully ask officials to:

-Evaluate and install a speed bump or other effective traffic-calming device.
-Review existing signs and add pavement markings or additional warnings if needed.
-Address speeding through appropriate enforcement.
-Provide residents with a written response and timeline for action.

Children should be able to play, walk, ride their bikes, and enjoy nearby playgrounds without facing unnecessary danger. We should not have to wait for a tragedy before action is taken.

Slow down. Protect our children. Make Hillcrest Rd safer.

By signing this petition, we urge officials to take prompt action to protect children, pedestrians, residents, and pets.

Requested action: Install a speed bump or equally effective traffic-calming measure at the center of Hillcrest Rd.
