At present, stealing a dog comes under the same heading as stealing a mobile phone or any other personal property.

Whilst having your phone stolen can be a major inconvenience, it is in no way comparable in the eyes of dog owners and dog lovers who regard their canine as part of the family. Unlike your phone, they cannot be replaced with a simple phone call to your insurance company.

We believe that dog theft should be regarded as a crime of considerable seriousness and that it should be subject to specific legislation and carry a heavy punishment - including imprisonment.

As my MP, I hope you will support this petition and do everything you can to support and promote legislation with determination. Dog thefts are on the increase and, for many, many people have taken on a real threat to the safety of themselves and their pet not only when out walking but even within their own homes.
