Young Fine Gael are calling for #PricklessNights - make spiking a stand-alone offence
The Issue
Young Fine Gael wants to make Spiking a stand-alone offence in Irish Law.
There is an ever-increasing number of cases of spiking reported. Unfortunately, Spiking is dealt with under Poisoning in Irish law and doesn't deal directly with the actual root cause of the issue, failing to address the sinister intentions of perpetrators who seek to take advantage of their victims.
If spiking is made a stand-alone offence under the legislation drafted by Young Fine Gael members, it will carry a maximum 10-year prison sentence. Currently, the maximum penalty is only 3 years.
Young Fine Gael wrote this bill in 2022 and with the help of our Fine Gael Senators, in 2023 saw it progress through and pass all stages in Seanad Éireann. With the dissolution of the Dáil in 2024, our bill lapsed, but in May 2025 was restored meaning that it now needs to only pass through all stages in Dáil Éireann.
We are now calling for members of Dáil Éireann to pass our bill through all stages of Dáil Éireann and enact this legislation, to protect young people from viscous spiking and ensure that perpretators face justice.
Sign our petition to call on the Minister for Justice to progress our anti-spiking legislation in a timely manner and to enact it into law as soon as possible.
