Cameron University presents Double Dip of Turkey: Decline in the Rule of Law and the Economy Virtual Conference June 19th, 2021 11:00 am-1:00 pm CST, (US Central time) Conference Theme As Turkey started to slip away from the rule of law and democracy, similar to many other indicators of prosperity and development, the country's economy has also suffered. Nepotism and partisanship, presidential interference with the central bank, conspiracy theories about foreign plots to undermine the so-called success of Turkey, corruption, and insider trading led to major losses in value for the Turkish Lira, skyrocketing unemployment especially among the young workforce, substantially higher inflation rates compared to other emerging markets, and exponential growth in foreign deficit despite manipulations in economic indicators. As this slow-burning and complex crisis is gradually bringing the country to its knees, it is getting harder for Turkish citizens to survive and hope for a better future for upcoming generations. Cameron University is proud to present an academic conference on economic and financial issues related to these developments in the Turkish economy. Multiple perspectives will be presented during the conference by distinguished speakers from around the world. We would like to endorse different viewpoints with an open dialogue of diverse perspectives on the topic. The speakers will address some of the ramifications of this political purge and resulting economic issues for Turkey. We hope that bringing into conversation the decline of the Turkish economy and associated financial issues will promote a deeper understanding of the ongoing events undergirding the authoritarian surge in Turkey.
