Friends - this is your last chance to weigh in to try to save the Gibson House as a historic house museum. On Tuesday morning, June 26th, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors (BOS) will be deciding the future of the Yolo County Historical Museum, more commonly known as the Gibson House Museum. The house and 2.5 acres were bought by the County for $20,000 over 40 years ago with a sole purpose: to serve as Yolo County’s history museum. For decades, visitors, including about 1,000 third graders annually, have walked through the rooms of the Gibson House and learned more about what life was like for a Yolo County farming family in the 1800s. Sadly, the current BOS has chosen to turn its back on our history museum. While it is all but guaranteed that YoloArts will take over management of the Gibson House property, there is still time for the Supervisors to do the right thing and amend their agreement with YoloArts (the YoloArts MOU) to require that the Gibson House remain furnished as a house museum and open to the public for tours. Thank you for being one of over 4,400 people who signed this petition asking the BOS to keep the Gibson House a history museum. Now, we’re asking you to help one last time. Please write, call and/or attend the meeting on June 26th @ 9am (it’s ok to email and call all five supervisors!).
