Lucknow has constantly been amongst not only the country's but the world's most polluted cities for the past few years. Growing urbanization and industrialization in the newly developed localities has been one of the primary factors behind the environmental decay of Uttar Pradesh's Capital city.

Recently the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has written a letter to Lucknow Nagar Nigam seeking a plea to cut down 63,799 trees from Hanuman Setu to Nishatganj bridge across the Gomti River in order to host the annual Defence Expo being organized by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). In addition to that, the LDA wants the area to be completely cleared by Jan 15, 2020. The Defence Expo will be attended by officials from various countries and will showcase the defence capabilities of India. To avoid repercussions, the LDA has sought 59 lakhs (INR) in order to regrow the trees or relocate the green belt elsewhere but we all know what will happen with all that money

Despite the downfall in global climate conditions and a rising threat to our future generations, our leaders are least bothered when it comes to saving our precious environment. I request the Chief Minister of U.P, Yogi Adityanath and the Governor of U.P, Anandiben Patel to kindly look into this matter seriously and stop the destruction of our beautiful city Lucknow.
