#YEXIT Demand Yarrawonga's Separation from the Moira Shire Council

The issue

Hi, I'm Daine Runnalls and have been living in Yarrawonga for 33 years.

I'm a 4th generation Runnalls living in this town and come from a large working class family. Since I was a kid, I have heard the stories of the impact the formation of the Moira Shire has had on the people of Yarrawonga and surrounding districts. This impact has proved to be a shortcoming for its residents. I have heard whispers of corruption within local government.

Melissa Horne, Member for Local Government - I respectfully pose the question, what are the standards and expectations of a local government?

I have personally witnessed the mismanagement of funds and lack of infrastructure since the foundation of the Moira Shire. Our community, along with surrounding areas, contributes significantly to the council's budget through rates. However, only a meager 7.5% of our $71 million contribution is reinvested back into our community. This lack of transparency and questionable investment strategy are deeply concerning.

We call for Yarrawonga and its surrounds to be removed from the Moira Shire Council in what we term as 'Yexit'. We demand that our hard-earned money be used for local development rather than disappearing into an opaque budgeting process. It is time for us to take control over our own resources and ensure they are used wisely for our community.

We urge all concerned residents, locally or otherwise to sign this petition. Our town's wellbeing is in jeopardy.  Let's make 'YEXIT' happen!
