On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office charged and arrested Charles David Thornton II with felony animal abuse and cruelty after a video surfaced on social media, showing the offender repeatedly striking with a board and heavy chain a dog in his custody in the yard of 1506 North Y St Pensacola, Florida. The offender then continued to drag the dog by its back hind leg(s) snapping at least one rear leg. The dog was not able to defend himself or get away from the offender as it was still hooked to the heavy metal chain that the offender had in his hand and used to beat the dog with.
A concerned citizen videotaped the event and tried to intervene for the welfare of the animal. However Mr. Thornton II is seen on the video aggressively lunging at the citizen.
It is further revealed, during an investigation conducted by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and animal control regarding the abuse, cruel treatment and welfare of the canine victim in the video, Mr. Thornton II made several threats against them regarding their safety.
Mr. Thornton II is a registered sex offender with the state of Florida and is required to update his registry for the duration of his natural life.
However, it has been revealed that the current address on his registry, 640 Bullard Ave Pensacola, Fl may not be his current address and he has failed to update the Sex Offender Registry as required by Florida law, as it is known that he may live at 1506 North Y Street Pensacola, Florida per county tax and deed records.
Mr. Thornton II has a lengthy criminal record including several violent offenses such as kidnapping, several battery arrests and false imprisonment dating back to 2009. Mr. Thornton II is a violent repeat offender and has NO REGARD for life or safety of animals or humans.
The current whereabouts or condition of the canine victim at this time is UNKNOWN. NOR WILL MR. THORNTON COOPERATE WITH AUTHORITIES IN TURNING OVER CANINE VICTIM OR BODY OF, TO PROPER AUTHORITIES.
It is FURTHER REVEALED, while Mr. Thornton II committed this and several heinous, horrific acts of cruelty against the canine victim over the period of at least five weeks, Mr. Thornton II, was a CARE PROVIDER of an elderly family member living in the home.
FBI Crime Statistics has determined there are strong links associated with animal abuse and cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse.
IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBER IS STILL IN THE HOME.
OR
IF RELEASED FROM JAIL BY BOND, IF MR. THORNTON WOULD CONTINUE TO PROVIDE CARE TO THIS ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBER.
IF RELEASED FROM JAIL, IT IS ALSO REASONABLE AND FAIR TO EXPECT, FROM MR. THORNTON’s VIOLENT HISTORY THAT INCLUDES NO REGARDS TO SAFETY OR LIFE, THE CANINE VICTIM, IF STILL ALIVE WOULD BE IN IMMINENT DANGER.
WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES AND FLORIDA ARE SENDING A CLEAR AND STRONG MESSAGE TO YOU, THE BONDSMAN, TO NOT SIGN THIS MAN’S BOND, LETTING HIM TO BE FREE TO WALK THE STREETS IN OUR SOCIETY.
WE FURTHERMORE HAVE REASONABLE CONCERNS FOR ALL PERSON’S SAFETY CONNECTED TO THE ARREST OF MR. THORNTON II DUE TO HIS DOCUMENTED VIOLENT HISTORY.
WHILE WE UNDERSTAND A ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL JUDGE HAS GRANTED A $5,000 BOND IN THIS CASE AND IF WRITTEN, HE COULD WALK OUR STREETS IN OUR COMMUNITY OR FLEE THE AREA LEGALLY.
WE MUST STAND TOGETHER-BONDSMAN AND SOCIETY-AND SEND A STRONG MESSAGE AGAINST HEINOUS CRIMES AND KEEP OFFENDERS IN JAIL TO PROTECT OUR CITIZENS AND THE VICTIMS OF UNFORGIVABLE AND MALICIOUS CRIMES.
LETS STAND FOR TOGETHER TODAY AND SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO MR.THORNTON II-NOT THIS TIME MR. THORNTON II YOU STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU BELONG IN JAIL FOR THE SAFETY OF A
LL IN OUR COMMUNITY.
