Yes to a pump track in Abergele
The Issue
I the undersigned am in full support of the installation of a pump track in Abergele. I understand the proposal to be for a professionally designed and installed asphalt surfaced pump track suitable for bicycles, scooters, skate boards and similar wheeled sports equipment and that the design and spec of the pump track will be of sufficient interest to be accessible to young children but also provide interest and challenge to older or more advanced risers. Examples of these tracks are those constructed by Clark and Kent and Velosolutions.
Pump tracks provide an excellent opportunity for children to engage in wheeled sports activities, which may then increase their likelihood of choosing active travel, low carbon, travel options in later life, whilst also providing activity and time outdoors which are known to support both physical and mental health and wellbeing. By installing a high quality, professionally designed and built pump track the opportunities for anti-social behaviour will be minimised as users of the pump track value the facility and add an element of self-policing of other users.
North Wales has a lack of good quality pump tracks, with the only asphalt tracks currently in the region either being a pay per use venue in the Conwy Valley, or tracks on the English border and in Cheshire. The addition of a pump track in Abergele would prove an asset to the town, provide much needed exercise and play space for the residents whilst also supporting the wider communities of Llandulas, LlanfairTH, Pensarn and Towyn. There is a good quality skate park in Colwyn Bay which attracts visitors from the nearby towns and villages and has added great benefit to the community.
After listening to the views of the community we are now considering multiple venues around Abergele for the track and will complete a SWOT analysis of each that will be fed back to the town council to seek their backing on the chosen site.
