Not giving them up yet! Let's ask Joe to give Peanut Butter & Jelly to the sanctuary!
The Issue
It started with a fuzzy warm feeling to see this cute news about the pardoned Turkeys, Jelly and Peanut Butter yesterday. I was curious where they would be sent to and looked it up and that was the beginning of this rabbit hole...They will be sent to Purdue University and provides "a great resource" to support the poultry industry....That didn't really resonate with the happy tone this news created. It sounded more like "They were saved from the hell but sent to another hell to support their buddies to be killed for meat.", which is not so cool. Meanwhile, The Farm Sanctuary actually held the petition for them. Many vegan celebrities signed up the petition and it had been already sent to the White House and yet the voices didn't reach. Bummer. But here I am. Not giving them up yet! My goal here is to send this petition to either our buddy Joe (Biden -Happy Birthday! by the way! ) or the university to ask them to surrender them to Farm Sanctuary. If they would be already sent there by the time I close this petition, I will send this to the university. Please note I am not affiliated to Farm Sanctuary. I'm just an animal lover and a fan of what they do for animals. Peanut Butter and Jelly deserve the happy ending! While reading through some articles regarding this, I found that some animal right groups have been working on this for years (!) but for some reasons the pardoned turkeys have been always sent to a university to support the animal agriculture. I wonder why. First of all, They don't need to be "pardoned". The only wrong thing they did is to be born as turkeys and that's not even a sin. It is said that 245 million turkeys (45 millions for Thanksgiving) are killed every year. They are genetically modified to grow fast and forced to live in the abusive condition to be served for Thanksgiving dinner or turkey sandwiches. Meanwhile when I see the turkeys living in farm animal sanctuaries, they are affectionate, intelligent, love attentions just like puppies and kittens. Knowing how they really are and seeing this number make me clench my teeth. Thanksgiving is a good tradition to remind us that there is always a hope then maybe it is also the time this tradition should change for turkeys to have a hope to live their own lives on green grasses happily ever after. The new tradition has to begin with Peanut Butter and Jelly! I know this sounds silly for majority of people but I am seriously hoping someday many people will agree. So here's the petition I created for Jelly and Peanut Butter. Thank you for reading and keeping my fingers crossed!
