The Issue

As incidents involving visitors and Yellowstone’s bison continue to go "viral", it has become clear that the issue is not the wildlife — it is human behavior and the lack of effective enforcement during high‑risk seasons such as the rut.

Bison are not aggressive without cause. They are responding to repeated violations of their space, their grazing paths, and their reproductive activity. These animals are behaving exactly as wild animals should. The danger comes from visitors who ignore posted boundaries, approach too closely for photos, or cross restricted areas despite clear warnings.

Yellowstone National Park has a responsibility to protect both its wildlife and its visitors. Current measures are not preventing unsafe interactions, and the consequences are becoming increasingly visible, embarrassing, and harmful to the animals who call the park home.

I am calling for:

Stronger enforcement of distance regulations
Temporary closures or rerouting in high‑risk rut areas
Increased ranger presence during peak seasons
Clearer, more assertive signage
Public education that emphasizes respect for wildlife rather than sensationalizing dangerous encounters
The bison deserve safe space to live, graze, and reproduce without constant human interference. Visitors deserve accurate information and firm boundaries that prevent injury. Yellowstone deserves a reputation for protecting its ecosystem — not for viral videos of preventable incidents.

This is not about blame. It is about responsibility. It is time for Yellowstone to take stronger action.
