Yara: Stand Firm Defending Human Rights in Belarus

0 have signed. Let’s get to 75,000!

The Belarusian community around the world would like to extend their profound gratitude for your principled and consistent position in regards to the violations of human and workers rights in the Republic of Belarus following the flawed presidential election in August 2020. We are delighted that Belaruskali, one of the biggest businesses in our country, has such a well-reputed partner who is thoroughly committed to corporate responsibility and an ethical approach.

The Belarusians around the world have been following closely your communication with the senior management of Belaruskali in regards to the repression against the workers who started a strike action to demand better working conditions, an end to repression against company employees, as well as an end to violence, lawlessness, unlawful imprisonment and the usurpation of power by the brutal regime of Aleksandr Lukashenko.

Regretfully, we have to urge you to temporarily suspend your cooperation with Belaruskali. Despite the official announcement the company’s management made in the wake of your recent visit to Soligorsk, the repressions are bound to continue. The company is under total control of the unlawful regime of Aleksandr Lukashenko and simply has no possibility to do what is right in law and ethics. All the decisions regarding the oppressive actions are taken by the leader of the regime and his closest associates and cannot be changed or obstructed by their subordinates or appointees. We are confident that you are fully aware of these facts and are regularly briefed on the developments in the situation in Belarus.

We do appreciate that it may be difficult to suspend your cooperation in full. However, please remember that Belaruskali is one of the major sources of funding to Lukashenko’s riot police, as well as the KGB and torture squads who are responsible for the imprisonment, detention, rape, torture and persecution of tens of thousands of people. Recent revelations also indicate that the funds your cooperation with Belaruskali will bring, will be used to build and upkeep concentration camps — something Europe has not seen since the 1940s.

There is a reward in every sacrifice. We are confident that with your support, Belarus will be free in the very near future. We look forward to the day when we can welcome Yara International in a free country as a trusted and respected business partner. We hope we can rely on your continued support and commitment to the values and principles we share.
