The Issue

Yancey Animal Advocacy Group is a diverse group of individuals advocating for the health, safety and well-being of animals in our community. Our goal is to pass ordinances that will protect animals from neglect, suffering and harm. We want to give local law enforcement the authority to remove animals from bad situations, and the power to prosecute neglectful and abusive owners.

Below are the names and emails of our county commissioners. Let them know that you support the proposed ordinances.

Johnny Riddle:  johnny.riddle@yanceycountync.gov

David Grindstaff:  David.grindstaff@yanceycountync.gov

Mark Ledford, Vice Chair:  mark.ledford@yanceycountync.gov

Jill Austin:  jill.austin@ yanceycountync.gov

Jeff Whitson, Chairman:  jeff.whitson@yanceycountync.gov

Yancey County is one of the few counties in the state of North Carolina that does not have any animal ordinances. We need laws that will help provide basic humane care such as adequate shelter for dogs living outside, and access to food and water. To read the proposed ordinances, follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1884601728265351/ or visit one of these locations: Cane River Vet, Barkin' Basement, Rescue Dog Cafe, or the Yancey County Humane Society.

Together, we can protect animals from neglect, suffering and harm. Please sign this petition and share it on social media. Thank you!
