As a Jesuit Catholic University that prides itself on Jesuit Values like Cura Personalis, being Men and Women for and with others; we as a collective community are failing to be who we say we are. Our collective silence as a university during this time of struggle for racial justice is sickening. As a guiding light in not only Cincinnati, Ohio, but in the Catholic Church, we are turning our back on those who need us the most. We have hosted a conference talking about slavery, created a university-wide diversity task force, but have not made a single effort to support the current movement against the institutionalized bigotry that is police brutality. We must begin to be proactive in our own community to change the status quo.

Therefore I am demanding that the Xavier University issue a public statement that:

  1. Firmly stands in Solidarity with the peaceful protesting of the wrongful deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arberry, Dreasjon Reed, and Tony McDade
  2. Review and Revise the XUPD Citizens Complaint process with student input
  3. Establish a formal and user-friendly student citizens complaint process with Cincinnati and Norwood Police Departments with student input
  4.  Create clear and concise literature and programing with student input and XUPD that explains Students' Rights on an individual and group basis.
