"BHUSD Superintendent - Dr. Bregy posted in Beverly Hills Unified School District:

Re:  Employee Misconduct

Dear BHUSD Community,

Although this matter only pertains to one school, in the interest of transparency we are notifying the entire BHUSD community.

On May 2nd, 2022, BHUSD notified the Beverly Hills Police Department and Child Protective Services of a substitute employee accused of inappropriate touching of minor students. The individual has been employed by Beverly Hills Unified School District since 2015 with an unblemished record of service. During this time they served as a substitute teacher at all BHUSD schools

BHUSD takes every reported act of misconduct seriously and is dedicated to unrelentingly pursuing any allegation to determine the truth and, if necessary, enforce the appropriate disciplinary measures. Last Friday, immediately after the school and District were notified of the allegations, the individual was placed on administrative leave for the alleged misconduct. Please note that consistent with our employment requirements, the individual in question cleared background checks prior to employment. Subsequently, their employment has been officially terminated, and will be in violation of trespassing should they approach our premises.

BHUSD will fulfill its responsibility to assist the Beverly Hills Police Department and Child Protective Services with their ongoing investigation. No matter the size nor magnitude of the allegation, the school and District administration have and will continue to fully corporate with the investigation. Due to legal constraints, which include the privacy protections for both our students and personnel, the details of this investigation and the minor victims cannot be disclosed and will remain confidential. If charges are filed, this case will be determined in a court of law.

We place the safety of students as our top priority however nothing will ever replace the relationship between a child and a parent. Your open lines of communication with your child (red) are critical to our ability to work together in ensuring that our schools remain safe. Please do not hesitate in bringing any concerns to our school administrators. Counseling and support are available to all students and we encourage you to access these services. Every student must feel safe when attending school and we applaud the bravery of the students who spoke up.

I personally reassure you, all of our parents and guardians, staff, students, and the wider community, that our schools and District have and will continue to take every precaution to ensure the safety of students. You deserve to know that your children are safe when they are at our schools; this is the foundational principle of providing education. We hold this value to the highest degree and will continue our work to uphold it. BHUSD takes concerns and complaints regarding the conduct of all employees seriously and if your child has additional information in connection with these accusations please contact the Beverly Hills Police Department or Dr. Matt Horvath, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services.

Respectfully,
Dr. Bregy"
