Justice for Sassy

The Issue

I would like you all to know about the situation regarding the killing of Sassy, a dog at the Wythe County Animal Control Facility in Virginia. The head ACO (Animal Control Officer) made the decision to kill Sassy without discussion even though Charlotte's Place - A Journey of Hope, had set up transportation and medical treatment for Sassy. When they called to confirm pick up today they were told of Sassy's demise. This has sparked a community outrage by this disgusting betrayal of an animal that this facility had pledged to protect and provide safe haven for in an event such as Sassy's. She did not ask to die. She asked to be saved. She was saved until the head ACO decided to extinguish any hope for a second chance at life for this precious girl. Here is the story.....

"Charlotte's Place-A Journey of Hope...
RIP Sassy...

We are OUTRAGED!!!

The county of Wythe Virginia euthanized Sassy today without informing us. Yes you read that correctly.
We called the vet to confirm our transport picking her up and were told the ACO chose to kill her.
The head ACO went into the vet and demanded she be killed. Why? because he didn’t feel Sassy had a good chance. He didn’t care that she had rescue. He didn’t care that we had already arranged all her medical care and transport to our specialists. He simply snuffed out her life because he felt like it.
Sassy paid the ultimate price for someone trying to showcase his power, instead of doing what is best for the animal. We have saved many in similar conditions and worse. It is what our rescue focuses on. “Giving Hope To The Hopeless “. Sassy wasn’t hopeless. She had fought like hell to survive and she deserved her chance which she had. Wythe county felt differently. We have spent hours trying to receive an explanation that makes any sense; a thought process as to why they would demand the killing of an animal who had a rescue and was receiving medical care.
There will be no investigation. There will be no charges pressed. Sassy will disappear into the good ole boy system like so many others. We do not accept this!!
Please help us get justice for Sassy! Please demand they at minimum, they pursue Sassy’s animal cruelty case! They had no right to kill her, and now they want to make her life and story go away!
Flood their emails animalcontrol@wytheco.org and copy town administrator at info@wytheco.org
*** Please note that any money raised will be used towards the rescue of another dog in dire medical need in Sassy’s honor. We appreciate everyone who helped to rally for this poor sweet girl. ***"

Animal cruelty can be described in many ways.....beatings, starvation, abandonment....and yes, even killing. The new law in Virginia, Tommie's Law, states this....

"Effective July 1, 2019, anyone who "tortures, willfully inflicts inhumane injury or pain," or "cruelly and unnecessarily beats, maims or mutilates any dog or cat" can be found guilty of a Class-6 felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500."

The words to describe torture or or pain definitely includes murder. What happened to Sassy is not going to just go away if we can all band together and call for justice for this poor little girl who had suffered enough but was forced to die. We will be sure the news outlets get a hold of this story and expose this animal control facility for neglect to protect the animals they take in from harm...especially at the hands of their own employees.
