Black bears in Quebec are killed and poached just to be sold on the black market in China for medicine that has no medical backing or recognized  by western countries as medicine. Black bears are kept in small cages and are kept alive to farm their bile, there are alternatives to the black bear bile, but there is still inhumane black bear farms around.
