We want to increase the population of the vaquita because there are only  10 left in the wild, and if we don't act now they will disappear forever, unless we take action. That's what we said - there are only about 10 Vaquitas in the wild. Vaquitas represent the seriousness of extinction. Diversity is important for the natural balance of the earth.

We need to stop illegal gillnet fishing because that's what's killing the vaquitas.  As few as 10 vaquita may remain in the Gulf, also known as the Sea of Cortez, the only place in the world that the elusive porpoise lives.

We want the vaquita species to thrive.  WWF has long collaborated on acoustic monitoring, to help estimate the vaquita population. WWF will continue to support acoustic monitoring of the population, as it provides crucial information for the design and implementation of effective conservation measures.
