Digital re-releases of classic videogames on PlayStation Store & Xbox Store have been on sale for a long time, yet the original WWE SmackDown and SmackDown vs. Raw games have not. These were classic titles which the majority of modern fans will have never been able to play, as their home consoles have not been in development for a long time, and in the case of Xbox, the series only became multi-platform in 2006. Given the business model of the WWE Network, which is heavily focused on allowing fans to watch vintage footage from past events, I believe it would be a great success for the company if the early games from WWE's flagship videogame series were made available digitally (via 2K Games, given the demise of THQ earlier this decade). Many hardcore gamers consider these to be the greatest WWE titles ever, so these people along with a potentially large audience of newer fans would definitely be interested in purchasing games like SmackDown 2 Know Your Role and SmackDown Here Comes The Pain, if they were made available again in digital form for a reduced price. In addition, these re-releases could be put on sale in time for WrestleMania next April, when interest in the WWE product is at an annual high, theoretically boosting their potential success even further.
