Respect and Justice for AJ Mendez (FKA AJ Lee)

Respect and Justice for AJ Mendez (FKA AJ Lee)
The Issue
AJ Mendez Brooks (FKA AJ Lee) is one of the primary reasons why a "women's revolution" exists in WWE. Without AJ calling out Stephanie McMahon concerning WWE's treatment of women as less than equals within the company, higher ups within the company may have never gotten the message that change was necessary. Due to AJ's outspokenness as well as her relationship with CM Punk (who was also very vocal in his criticism of the culture within WWE), she has been pretty much entirely erased from the company's history and her accomplishments and legacy are never acknowledged. I think it is absurd for WWE to promote a "women's revolution" when one of the most popular and influential women in the modern history of the company is treated as if she never existed. Joanie Laurer AKA Chyna was blacklisted from the company for 15 years before her tragic death just a year ago, and WWE is repeating history by similarly blacklisting AJ. There has been a tremendously positive change over the past couple of years when it comes to the portrayal of women in WWE, and although there is still a long way to go in ensuring that women in the company are given the respect they deserve, these positive changes should not be downplayed. AJ played a crucial role in setting the tone for these changes to be made, and she deserves to be recognized for it. Just this year, AJ opened up about her lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder, and also published her autobiography documenting how she overcame bipolar disorder to become a wrestling star and to help change the culture and perception for women in the wrestling business. AJ's beautiful soul has been put out there for the world to see, and she has done a tremendous service in raising awareness to mental illness and has given hope to countless numbers of people. It's time that the business she devoted her life to does the same thing for her.
