Route 9 Northern Bypass Around Hedgesville, WV

Route 9 Northern Bypass Around Hedgesville, WV
The Issue
Hedgesville is a town in Berkeley County, West Virginia, in the state's Eastern Panhandle region. The population was 318 at the 2010 census. In 1854, Hedgesville was officially incorporated by the General Assembly of Virginia. Hedgesville is a National Register Historic District; a tiny little gem in WV.
Now the town experiences grid lock, noise, and pollution from roughly 16,000 cars and hundreds of garbage trucks per day making their way through this tiny little town headed to work or the landfill, maybe to one of four schools built within and without two miles of town. Traffic backs up along Route 9 for up to five miles in the evening with folks just trying to get home. Some townspeople can no longer get mail delivered. Parking in the square is no longer possible.
It has become a serious quality of life problem for thousands of drivers and residents. Now is the time to begin the work that is absolutely necessary to accommodate the thousands of homes being built in Berkeley County every year. The proposed route along Harlan Springs Road to points west will reasonably improve the flow of traffic and must be started NOW before any more housing developments are built along the proposed route and it becomes fiscally unreasonable.
