The Issue

My daughter is going to move from her High School to college in September. Without her EHCP being finalised and naming her post-16 provision, she is unable to attend SEND-specific transition and settling-in sessions. This delay severely impacts her ability to adapt and succeed in a new educational environment.

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) must work lawfully by issuing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) following age-phase transfers promptly. According to the Children and Families Act 2014, local authorities have a legal duty to ensure that EHCPs are reviewed and amended before the young person moves between key phases of education.

Failure to comply with these regulations not only violates the law but also jeopardizes the future of many young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Timely issuance of EHCPs is crucial for their successful transition into further education or training.

Sign this petition if you believe WSCC should adhere strictly to legal timelines for issuing EHCPs during age-phase transfers!
