Move all Wright State Classes to a Pass/ Fail system for spring 2020

The Issue

COVID-19, aka the Coronavirus, has put many aspects of life on hold. Ohio has proven itself to be a leader in the fight to "flatten the curve". But this fight to flatten the curve is a burdensome fight, a disruptive fight. Through our efforts to flatten the curve, We students, have been told no more face to face classes, then we have been. told we must vacate our dorms. Seniors have been told to say goodbye to friends far earlier than they had expected. We have been told to limit the size of groups that we are with and to increase the distance between people. All of this in the name of public health, which is a worthy cause.

Bars and restaurants have been closed, along with many retailers and campus services. For many of us, these bars, and restaurants, the retailers and campus positions were our livelihoods, our sources of income. While yesterday, the most pressing issue for us was when we would have time to study, today our most pressing issue is how will we pay rent.

To be clear, we do not blame anyone for this, but the extraordinary circumstances that we find ourselves in warrant extraordinary actions. So far we have been asked to give and give and give and accept the new reality that every day brings. Today, we request that Wright State University moves classes for Spring Semester to a pass/ fail grading system.

We ask this as a gesture to alleviate mental health issues that this is already causing. We ask this so that we may focus more on the most pressing issues at hand. We ask this for the seniors who otherwise would have maintained a 4.0gpa and the students who need this to avoid academic probation. We ask this from the position of students who have already given up so much and have just accepted the daily upheaval of life due to no fault of our own.
