I just wanted to let you know that I am continuing to monitor the foxes at the big urban development in Worthing with multiple trail cameras to advise the construction company on the foxes safety. Three months into the big build, what used to be Ophelia's garden is now just a pile of rubble. I witnessed the demolition live and it was so sad to see all the mature shrubs that took decades to grow and provided food and a home to many creatures big and small to be ripped out. Ophelia left as soon as these building works started but her cubs stuck around and surprisingly are experiencing the ever-changing environment as an adventure. They have been seen playing 'catch me if you can' on and around the big piles of soil as you can see in the video I have added to this update. It gives me hope to see how resilient foxes can be. I continue to advise the builders about any health hazards that could potentially injure any of the foxes and luckily the company. Cheesmur Building Contractors are listening to my advice and show commitment towards wildlife conservation. I am sure your massive support in signing and sharing this petition has a big role to play in the cooperation of the company - they know that almost 10.000 people are watching very closely.

The cameras monitoring the ancient den show a lot of activity by the adult foxes - scent-marking and digging. This area including the trees sheltering the den remains untouched by the build however it might be wise to fill the den in before mating season. The reason is that just as the young and vulnerable cubs may emerge from the earth, 50 tenants are set to move into the development so the the den area will not anymore be safe and secluded as it it now may seem to adult foxes who may choose this site to rear cubs.

One concern I have is how the owners of the development, Worthing Council may react to the fact that a fox family lives on site and if they may be hostile towards the foxes. The council has still not committed to not harming the fox family even though I have written repeatedly to them. So please keep sharing this petition - the more signatures it has, the more weight it will carry when I will approach the council again at the end of the build in spring 2021 to be a voice for the fox family on site. We got almost 10.000 signatures so far!

I am planning to create a documentary about this fox family and the effects of urban development on their lives in the near future in the hope to inspire other fox lovers to speak up for wild animals affected by building projects. More info to follow.
