In 2005, the international status for polar bears was upgraded from "least concern" to "vulnerable", due to different natural and human pressures affecting the Arctic.

Rising temperatures due to climate change are melting the sea ice that polar bears rely on for hunting. Additionally, the unsustainable hunting of polar bears for their fur is highly unregulated. Finally, pollution destroys their habitat and contaminates their food.

Due to a lack of human intervention, we will see irreversible damage to our planet and mass extinction of many species, including the polar bear. It is estimated that in 10 years, the polar bear population will decline by about 30%, and in 2100, scientists suggest that the polar bears will be extinct.
