Why this petition matters

China is facing one of the greatest Public Health disasters in it‘s history. About 600 deaths have been claimed by the Novel Coronavirus until now and it is at an ever rise. More than 30,000 people are infected by the virus and that is just the official reports. More than 3,500 people are in critical condition. Now these are just the publicised facts over such a short timeline which could as well be the tip of an iceberg. Through previous outbreaks like SARS, China has accumulated the experience and protocols to efficiently manage a infectious disease outbreak. But, with an infectious rate as such with the Coronavirus, it is quite a huge number to overwhelm any expert health care system. It is true that their Goverment is doing as much as possible and they have done a commendable job so far in mobilising their ground teams to tackle the infection, provided the fact that they did neglect the initial assessments. But as the infection rate and the mortality rate continues to rise, it could only be weeks until the country plunges into impuissance.

The decisions by governments Worldwide in closing their borders to prevent a Worldwide outbreak is a bold and necessary decision. But, on a humanitarian standpoint, it is also necessary to help China at this difficult point of time. In the closed-down province of Wuhan and other severely affected provinces of China, people will eventually suffer dreadful food shortages and lack of medical supplies to treat the increasing number of Coronavirus patients. Helping eradicate the disease at its point of origin will also prevents it’s further spread. It is not just China‘s fight. It is a potential Pandemic and it is the duty of each capable Government and World Organisation to help as much as possible. The spread of such a disease to other countries with lower health care standards and facilities would be catastrophic and the death count in such a case is quite unimaginable but foreseeable if not addressed at the right time. Therefore, I urge each capable Government and decision-makers all around the World to help China deal with this unprecedented Health-care crisis.
