A Petition to End World Hunger

A Petition to End World Hunger
The Issue
World Hunger Needs to End!
GREETINGS EVERYONE!
Are you aware that there are a lot of people starving and do not have food to put on their table? How can we help to solve this almost unsolvable problem? Do you have the will to help out millions of people against their fight to starvation? Hunger is a dreadful problem that the world faces today. Many people suffer because they are deprived of opportunities and resources. We, the fortunate and privileged people should help resolve this crisis. A small action could ignite a spark to encourage millions of people into helping our brothers and sisters across the globe.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
In a world of abundant wealth and resources, where enough food is produced to feed everyone on the planet, it is unacceptable that hundreds of millions of people suffer from hunger. Right now, poverty, conflict, and climate change are contributing to hunger and suffering around the world. Hunger is increasing in many countries where economic growth is lagging and this petition came to our mind. It aims to finally end this dilemma we're currently facing that even now are still unsolved and use our voice through this platform. We want to be their voice to spread awareness to people and end this never-resolved problem of world hunger.
STATISTICS:
It’s hard to believe that this is the current situation of our country. For you to believe here are some of the data that has been collected for the past years.
- Approximately 842 million people suffer from hunger worldwide. That’s almost 12 percent of the world’s population of 7.1 billion people.
- Malnutrition is a primary symptom of hunger. 40% of preschool-age children are estimated to be anemic because of iron deficiency, and anemia causes 20 % of all maternal deaths. In addition, it is estimated that 250 to 500 thousand children go blind from Vitamin A deficiency every year.
- Asia is the continent with the hungriest people - two thirds of the total. The percentage in southern Asia has fallen in recent years but in western Asia it has increased slightly.
- Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year.
- The rate of stunting (children too short for their age as a result of chronic malnutrition) fell from 33 percent of children under age five in 2000 to 23 percent in 2016.

PHILOSOPHICAL VIEW:
This type of suffering is called Weltschmerz wherein the world can never live up to the ideal “perfect world” resulting to sadness and apathy. Some officials and even normal citizens have this kind of thinking, that world crises cannot ever be resolved. This falls on the viewpoint of Pessimism that suffering is caused by man’s ability to meet his want and needs. The people suffer because they do not have enough resources to sustain life. World hunger could be resolved by personally helping those who suffer and this falls on the philosophical view of Utilitarianism wherein people should focus on actions that are beneficial to society in order to alleviate pain and suffering.
CONSEQUENCES:
What will happen if world hunger will go on forever?
- Health. Hunger and malnutrition makes the body weak and vulnerable to diseases and infections as the body does not have the fuel to build muscle and fight off infections. According to study and real-life based research, it can be the cause of deadly diseases such as malaria and HIV’s. Since it decreases one’s immunity system, it is more vulnerable to catch these kinds of sickness.
- Education. Without enough foods with balanced vitamins and minerals, the brain is not able to develop properly. It makes it difficult to concentrate on anything, especially for children. Children suffer from this most and are unable to stay in school.
- Economy. There is a big possibility that the economy of that country will drop. This is because adults and young adults do not have the right frame of mind to work. Additionally, governments are forced to spend more on food aid and care, rather than investing in schools, infrastructure, and healthcare.
- Migrations and Socialization. People are forced to migrate and degrade their way of living.Young adults who are able to migrate to nearby towns and cities end up in slums or run down communities, as they cannot afford the high living standards in the cities. Their low education level also makes them unsuitable for many good paying city jobs. Many of them end up doing drugs, robbery, prostitution and other crimes to make a living.
SOLUTION:
We all know that world hunger is a hard to solve crisis that is not resolved up until now. Here’s what we can do to help lessen the damage it has done:
- Stay informed. An informed public is the first step to any meaningful action.
- Be an advocate. Use your voice to let your leaders, friends, families, and social networks know that you care about ending hunger.
- Show your support on social media. Social Media has become one of the most used way to communicate with people and by sharing awareness about this problem would help the poor and needy people in the easiest way as well. Also, use this to fight streotypes.
- Donate food items. Donating groceries can help end the hunger of poor and needy people. Rather than wasting food or throwing it, it is better to give it to a needy person.
- Support organizations that distribute food.
- Donate to the right charities. Giving your money to the right people/organizations will surely reach those less fortunate.
- Teach about birth control. Having too many children to raise is one of the cause of poverty which can lead to hunger. In this way people would be informed and we could stop the number of ever-growing population especially the poor people.
- Use your skills to volunteer. One can encourage friends or family members to join for just a noble cause.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE BENEFITS IF THIS PETITION WILL BE A SUCCESS:
- Population will stabilize because they will know and understand health, their bodies, and what it means to give and nurture life.
- Human beings in the world will find it easy to care for each other.
- People will have comfort because they already know that each and every one of us is already stable.
- There will be a sustainable world.
- Children will be able to attain proper education.
BENEFICIARY:
The people that will benefit from this are the less fortunates that experience this problem. From children to adults in your localities and also internationally, will experience a huge change in their lives.
World hunger is not a joke. So think twice when leaving your plate half full, or throwing away a piece of food just because it doesn’t suit your taste. You might not feel the situation that is currently going on, but if you take a closer glimpse of it, you’ll realize why there are people begging for scraps of food, why children can’t go to school despite their desire of doing so, or why one country just can’t seem to develop.

We're blessed that we were given a life wherein we will not trouble to think about tomorrow. This small act of kindness can add up to make a big difference. Helping one person might not change the whole world but it could change the world for one person.
Let your world revolve around these grand scheme of things that are currently happening.
