Interview With An Murderer

Recently The Guardian was able to secure an interview with a fisherman who participated in the dolphin hunt. His justification for continuing the barbaric practice is absurd. When asked why he hunted the dolphins, the fisherman answered: "We couldn’t grow rice or vegetables here, and we had no natural water supply. We needed to kill whales to eat, and hundreds of people died doing so. This was a very difficult place to survive" Perhaps this was true in ancient Japan, but modern Japan has access to an entire trade network of imported goods. The fishermen don't have to depend on the dolphins for food they just choose to. On average a dolphin sales for 8000 - 40,000 USD. This has nothing to do with food, it is about greed plain and simple. The dolphins that are killed are the lucky ones, the ones that are captured spend there entire lives caged and performing for the amusement of people. The murder of dolphins will not stop unless the Japanese government bans the barbaric practice. With each signature, more pressure is put on the government to end the practice. We will make a difference.
