10.64 seconds was all it took for Sha’Carri Richardson to be crowned as the “fastest woman in America” and a household name overnight. Sha’Carri won the 100-meter race against several other competitors, but she had something about her that was far different from the other runners. Maybe it was her bright and electrifying orange hair— almost like a beautiful blazing fire— accompanied with long and glamour nails that made her stand out, or maybe it was the confidence and resilience she had shown as she pointed at her coach. Whatever it was, it worked magnificently. Sha’Carri Richardson became an internet sensation with her viral lines, “I’m really that girl”, and permanently marked her historical spot in not only athletic history, but black history.

Today, in the afternoon of July 1, Sha’Carri cryptically tweeted out the phrase, “I am human”; soon after it was revealed that Sha’Carri had tested positive for an illegal substance and would be disqualified from the Tokyo Olympics. While most of us are assuming that she had taken hardcore performance enhancements such as steroids, the truth of the matter was that it was just marijuana.

This petition is a plead to the World-Anti Doping Agency as well as the International Olympic Committee; Sha’Carri Richardson has proven time and time again that she deserves a spot at the Tokyo Olympics. Her testing positive for marijuana is simply not enough to eliminate her or the 10+ years of relentless hard work, sweat, tears that she has dedicated to the sport.

Please sign this petition if you agree that Sha’Carri should be allowed to compete and show her true American spirit at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
