Help make the village of Hanley Swan, Worcestershire, safer for pedestrians and wildlife
The Issue
As some of you may already be aware, we currently have a petition in our shop, Hanley Swan Village Stores in Worcestershire, which we would appreciate your support with. The petition aims to bring about an increased range of safety warning signs at the village duck pond.
This has come about following an incident on June 2nd 2016 at the crossroads in Hanley Swan where three ducks were knocked down and killed by a speeding motorist! No attempt was made to slow down.
We have tried in the past to action more speeding restrictions and as a result a mobile speed camera is sometimes seen in the village. However, we feel more signs are needed in addition to this as many ducks are knocked down and killed on a fairly regular basis because of motorists exceeding the 30mph speed limit. We aim to bring an increased awareness on all four roads leading to the crossroads about the ducks we have on the pond. We feel the two signs we have in the village are not sufficient with the increase in the volume of traffic travelling through our village. There needs to be more done regarding safety issues around this pond, as this is a popular attraction in the village and we need permanent safety measures to ensure the safe crossing of both pedestrians and wildlife!
Ultimately, the three ducks have paid the price, and they are just three of many in recent months! We need to highlight this issue to everyone inside and outside our village to make sure that people know they cannot continue to speed through Hanley Swan. It is everyone's responsibility to travel through the village at 30mph maximum. We ask for your support on this issue in order to bring about a change and we are calling upon everyone to drive with awareness through our village to prevent future issues.
If anyone can offer us advice or help on this matter, we would be more than grateful to receive your comments on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hanleyswanstores/
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this and thank you to all who have already shown their support. We are optimistic that we will bring about a change for the better! We will post updates of our efforts on our Facebook page. Thanks once again.
